The below process serves two purposes. Account creation for both Slidewaters and Lakeside Surf as well as waiver completion for all potential surfers.
Lakeside Surf is home to citywave USA, the world's largest stationary river wave. Surfing is an athletic activity that requires the participant to be physically and mentally capable of the demands of the sport. Please read all the rules, regulations and criteria requirements for participation before signing your waiver and booking any surf sessions. First time surfers must complete a Surf School with a Lakeside Surf Coach. A preview of the required inperson surf school is available here;
All surfers must complete the online waiver prior to booking any surf sessions. Participants under the age of 18 will need a guardian waiver and signature.
REQUIRED PROCESS FOR ALL PARTICIPANTS
citywave USA Requirements to participate
citywave USA Rules
• All citywave riders must register/check-in at Surf Club prior to getting on the wave
• All citywave riders must follow Surf Coach instructions at all times
• All citywave riders must be at least 10 years old and at least 48 inches tall.
• All citywave riders must enter the surf pool from the designated area on the side of the pool (from top or bottom of wave)
• After they fall, all citywave riders must immediately exit from the designated zero-depth exit area behind the wave
• All citywave riders must be comfortable swimming in moving water
• General physical fitness levels are necessary to safely ride the citywave
• In the case of physical restrictions or pre-existing injuries, it is imperative to obtain doctor’s approval and to inform the Surf Coaches before using the citywave
• Remove glasses, watches, jewelry and piercings before surfing as it may result in loss of the items and wearing them could result in dangerous injuries
• Jumping or diving into the water is prohibited everywhere in the surfing facility
• For children and beginners wearing a helmet is mandatory and recommended for all other surfers
• Beginners may only enter the wave with softboards and soft fins. Surfers must be able to balance on their board for the duration of their turn (approximately 30 seconds) in order to NOT be considered a beginner.
• All surfers must be connected to their surfboard via a leash. The leash must have a minimum length of 7 feet.
• All riding will happen in defined surf sessions. Each session will be a group of riders taking turns for the duration of the session. A turn starts when the rider is able to begin or attempt to begin to ride and ends when he or she falls and exits the back of the wave. Riders should restrict their turn to approximately 30 seconds to allow for line turnover throughout the session.
Safety
• Follow all citywave rules before, during and after use of the citywave
• Cover your face when you fall to protect yourself from your equipment
• Prior to engaging in this rigorous athletic activity, proper warm-up should be executed
• If approved by the Surf Coach for multiple riders at one time, maintain a safe distance from other riders.
• Do not dive off surf board at conclusion of your turn, rather fall on your back or side and make yourself big to get pushed to the back of the exit area.
